The Last Loop is Always the Hardest

Before you read any further may I warn you that what you are about to read was written in the midst of great turmoil. For a paper had to be written, yet long hours spent on tediously writing and researching brought unrequited frustration on my head, so in a desperation for relief, I turned to a blank document and penned this ridiculous poem of how I really felt. Sigh! The paper must continue, but if you must read then here is what I wrote in between the disaster.

I used to be a jogger,

Running laps around a trail.

Pushing forward, reaching for a goal.

Made myself keep going

No matter how tired I’d feel,

But that last loop

Was always the hardest.

I used to be a jogger.

I’d run and run and run,

Sweat pouring down my brow.

In hot or cold, I ran those laps,

Fearlessly reaching for the goal.

But that last loop

Was always the hardest.

I used to be a jogger,

I did it for the exercise.

Fighting for every breath,

Gasping for some air,

Or struggling up a hill.

But that last loop

Was always the hardest.

I used to be a jogger,

But now I write papers instead.

Writing, writing, writing,

Trying to find the right word

Research and resources help.

But it’s always the last paper

That’s the hardest of them all.

I am now a writer of papers,

But it sometimes

Seems to go nowhere.

Writing, writing, writing,

Only to delete and ty again.

Buts it’s always that last paper

That’s the hardest of them all.

Spirits low,

Feel like giving up,

Struggling for perseverance

When words don’t work,

And brain is dead.

Push on, push forward,

The goal must be reached.

It’s always the last semester paper

That’s the hardest of them all.

  1. When writing papers is a drag and words just do not come.
Get on those sneakers, head for the trail.
It's beginning that you'll have fun.
The paper will get done, you will not fail.
For while you run the words will come,
Your mind will be refreshed, outside in the sun
And like a sailboat in the wind the words will quickly sail.
