Thoughts on Snow
We all eyed the TV screen with rapturous delight as we watched the delightful movie “Anne of Green Gables”. In the middle of watching this delightful movie, we had to bring it to a pause for a brief moment, because of a phone call from a friend. After being told by our friend about the snow they were getting, we decided to look out our window to see if we had any. Sure enough, what do we behold, but a world of white? Absolutely gorgeous!
Before I go on with my narrative, I have to let you in on a secret. I’ve never been much of a lover of snow! I mean really, when it melts, it’s just one big muddy mess. Not only that, but around here, it doesn’t really snow enough to have a good sledding. Thus, cold and mucky, right? Wrong perspective, nevertheless! This winter has been pretty mild. In fact, I didn’t even think it would snow at all, which I would have been perfectly fine with.
So, back to the story. It had finally snowed for the first time this winter. You know, I think I had kind of forgotten the beauty of snow! Any how, after we had finished watching the movie, the power goes off. Yep! Hardly any wind outside and only about an inch or two of snow. We live with that, though, because that is just what happens in our little neighborhood in the woods.
When the power goes off, there are about two things you can do, either go outside, or go to bed. My sister and I chose to go outside. Oh, I forgot to mention to you that it was around 9:30pm , thus, not the typical hour for playing outside if you ask me. Anyway my sister and I had a most enchanting time wandering about in God’s marvelous creation. I must admit I did talk her ear off (please forgive me, dear), but that was just to ward off any wild beast that might wish to attack us. Believe me, after hearing the first sound of my approach, I am sure they took flight as quickly as possible.
It was so serene and blissful! I have not the words to describe the tranquility of the moment. It was completely heavenly!
I have changed my mind slightly about snow! Although, it can be a nuisance, God created it for His glory. Snow is something of an amazement to me! To think that every snowflake is different, yet each one has its own beautiful design. It is like people. God created each person different, yet He calls all of us beautiful. We are all exquisite and unique in a different way. (Psalm 139:13-16 “You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.”) Isn’t God awesome? The other thing that I love about snow is that it comes down and covers the earth and trees and makes everything look brand new and clean. The Bible says that when we accept Jesus into our heart and ask Him to forgive us of our sin, He will wash us as white as snow. (Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the Lord, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.) What a beautiful comparison! God makes our heart as white, as pure, and as clean as snow! Isn’t God awesome?
I don’t know about you, but I love snow! Thank you, Jesus, for the snow that you send, to remind us of your great love for each one of your children.
Here we are hugging our happy Little Southern Snowman. We call him Southern because why else would he be made of half leaves unless he was made in the south. He has now fallen over and lies melting away in our backyard.
At least you get some snow, poor Floridian me gets none.
