Favorite Books

Hello Everyone who reads this,
I would like to know of some good Christian books to read, so I thought I would ask about it on my blog. Therefore, I have some Questions for you and here they are.

1. What is your favorite spiritual book that you have ever read?
2. What is your favorite fiction that you have ever read?
3. What is your favorite biography or true story that you have ever read?
4. What is your favorite missionary biography that you have ever read?
5. Who are your three favorite authors?

I would love to hear your answers to these questions, and it doesn’t really have to be your “favorite ever read book” just one that you really liked. And now I shall attempt to answer the questions myself for anyone who may be interested.

1. Favorite spiritual book – Dug Down deep by Joshua Harris
2. Favorite fiction book – They Loved to Laugh by Katheryn Worth
3. Favorite biography – We Thought We Heard the Angels Sing by Lieutenant James C. Whittaker
4. Favorite missionary biography book – An Open Door in China (Jonathan Goforth) by Janet and Geoff Benge
5. Three favorite authors – Lori Wick, Louisa May Alcott, Carolyn Mahaney

Also this post is a “forever post” that means that even if it has been years since I have posted it, I would still love to hear your answers to these questions. Thank you very much!
I hope you are have a wonderful day. God bless you!

  2. Thanks Meggie,
    Yes, that is helpful.
I've read "Do hard Things" and really liked it, too. My Mom read "The Hiding Place" to me and my sisters a while back and that was really interesting, too. (we also watched the movie of it and that was really good, as well)
    Thanks again!
    God bless you!

  3. Hello Hannah!

Thank you so much for the comment you left on my blog!

    In answer to these questions...
    1) My favorite Spiritual book? "Justification and Regeneration" by Charles Leiter

    2) My favorite fiction book? "The Wolves of Willoughby Chase" by Joan Aiken. This book is a favorite with my entire family. We have looked at other books by this author and they had some objectionable content, but this book was wonderful. We've read it many times! :)

    3) Favorite biography? "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom.

    4) Favorite missionary biography? "The Triumph of John and Betty Stam" by Mrs. Howard Taylor (this is one of my very most favorite books that I've ever read!) and "Through Gates of Splendor" by Elisabeth Elliot.

    5) My three favorite authors? Jim Elliff, Charles Leiter, and Tom Wells (to name just three).

    Love in Christ,
    Amy

  9. Hey, Hannah!
I love to read, so it's hard for me to pick just a few favorites.
    1. I really enjoyed Be Last by Jeremy Kingsley. It's all about humility and remembering to put Jesus and others first.

    2. Pride and Prejudice (by Jane Austen) is without a doubt my favorite fiction book EVER! But I read all kinds of books--the Inkheart Trilogy, The Ranger's Apprentice Series, the Alex Rider Series, the Artemis Fowl Series, the Charmed Life Series (teen Christian fiction by Jenny Jones)...one Christian historical fiction book I immensely enjoyed was The Silent Governess. It was amazing. I highly recommend it! (I'm pretty sure the author's last name is Klassen)

    3. Definitely The Hiding Place. It was such an eye-opener and a reminder to trust God no matter what our circumstances.

    4. I've read several biographies on Amy Carmichael. I did a research paper on her life in middle school, and I really enjoyed learning about her life, how she helped children in India find the love of God.

    5. That's kinda hard. Jane Austen, for sure. And Janette Oake--I enjoy her books. I also really admire John Flanagan's, Anthony Horowitz's, and Eoin Colfer's work.

  11. 1. I have a tie for this one. "Signs of the Spirit" by Sam Storms was absolutely amazing, but John Piper's "Desiring God" also changed my outlook on life. It's a toss-up.
    2. C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy: "Out of the Silent Planet," "Perelandra," and "That Hideous Strength."
    3. I'm currently reading through "Confessions" by Augustine. Very excellent.
    4. I haven't read any missionary biographies...
    5. Douglas Wilson, John Piper, and C.S. Lewis

Wow, I can't believe I've never actually read any missionary biographies. That's just sad.

  12. Devin,
Wow! That is sad that you haven't read any missionary biographies. Here are some that I thought were really good:
    1. God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew
    2. Bruchko by Bruce Olson (That is an amazing book. I would highly recommend it.)
Also since you like John Piper's books then you might like his series The Swans are not Silent.

I have read Desiring God, too, and that was definitely a good book.
    Thanks for the recommendations.

    1. Hi Maggie,
I read "A Young Woman After God's Own heart" too, and really liked. I like Elizabeth George's devotional books, although that is the only one I have finished ( I think. I have two others of hers and plan to read them sometime, hopefully soon. I really like a lot of Janet and Geoff Benge's books, too.
      Thanks for leaving a comment!
