True Friends

There are many types of friends. There are weird friends, cool friends, false friends, best friends and friends that are just friends. Most people have these kinds of friends or have had these kinds of friends in the past, but I’m going to tell you about the best kind of friend, the kind of friend that isn’t very common, but if you have this kind of friend then you always will. This kind of friend is called the true friend.
A true friend won’t desert you. When you get in trouble and every one else decides to desert you, you’ll still have this friend. When you’re going through hard times this friend will still be there to encourage you. When you need help your friend will be ready to help you. A true friend will not desert you no matter what happens.
A true friend will build you up not tear you down. This friend will encourage you to do what is right when the world is pressuring you to do the opposite. This friend will pray for you. This friend will not spread gossip or lies about you. A true friend will only want to say or do things that help you not tear down or ruin you.
A true friend is always there for you. When you are happy they rejoice with you. When you are sad they mourn with you. When you want someone you can talk to, they are there to listen. They aren’t afraid to share with you their own sorrows, joys, and thoughts.
A true friend will love at all times ("A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." Proverbs17:17). A true friend is a blessing to you. A true friend enjoys being with you and you enjoy being with them. A true friend will be true to you.
These are characters of a true friend and the best kind of friend a man can have, but there is only one who can be a perfectly true friend. His name is Jesus and He will gladly be your friend if you ask Him to. He will never leave you or forsake you. He will always be your friend no matter what. He will always love you. He will stick closer then a brother ("A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Proverbs18:24).
Other examples of true friends are your parents or siblings. If you have godly Christian parents then they will always be true to you and always be there to encourage you to do what is right. They always want to build you up, not tear you down. They‘ll love you no matter what. Your brothers and sisters also are examples of true friends. Never think that just because they’re in your family you can’t be friends with them. Family members are usually the truest friends you’ll find on this earth. Although they aren’t as perfect a friend as Jesus, God gave them to us to be friends.
True friends are the very best kind of friends. They are the kind of friend you should be to your friends.

  1. Nice post, Hannah. I was just thinking how much people needed to hear what a real friend was!

  3. Hi Hannah,

I enjoyed reading this. True friends are hard to find. Prov. 17:17 has always been my favorite Bible verse.
And I totally agree about family being our friends! Michaela and I are true friends--I don't know what I'd do without her.
We can always be reminded to be true friends--especially with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

  4. Here is a quote by Aristotle that I thought was really good about friends,"Wishing to be friends is a quick work, but friendship is a slow ripening fruit."
