My Flute Story

Ever since I was very young I have wanted to learn to play the flute, but because they are expensive I thought it might be a while before that dream ever came true if ever. Nevertheless that did not hinder me from looking in every music magazine for a flute. Yet every time I looked the price was too high and I couldn’t afford it nor could my parents. Then I heard the clarinet and decided that I would like to play that in instead, although I really wanted to play both. Well, many years went by and still nothing happened. I really kind of thought that I would probably not be able to learn to play either until maybe I was married or something, yet I didn’t give up. Then it happened. Someone at our church found out that I was interested in playing the flute and she offered to buy it for me. After looking we found a used one for a great price, so we bought it. After getting it we discovered that it needed a good bit of work and that it would cost a good bit to get it fixed. Yet the lady that bought my flute said she would also pay for the repairs. So God blessed me with a flute. But, of course, if you want to play an instrument you have to learn and either teach yourself or get a teacher. Well, we have a wonderful friend who plays the flute beautifully, yet the only problem is she said she would never teach because she didn’t think she would make a good teacher. People, nothing is too hard for God. I just wanted to let you know that. So when our wonderful friend found out about my flute she offered to teach me. So I have now been enjoying the flute for about half a year and I absolutely love it. I am truly thankful first of all to God who made all of this possible. For if it hadn’t been for God’s grace then this would never have happened. I am also extremely thankful for the lady that bought my flute and the lady who teaches me flute.

Through this story I wanted to not only encourage you to trust God to provide, but to also persevere. I have heard that many people after getting to a certain age think they are too old to learn to play an instrument. Please don’t ever think that. I was seventeen before I could start learning the flute. Many people would think that they were too old by then, but that is not true. I may some day find out that I am wrong, but right now I think we shall never be too old to learn something new.

Have a happy day and God bless you!

  2. I enjoyed reading that. I have a flute story, too, sort of. When I started a new school in 9th grade, I joined concert band and decided to play the flute. I'd never played before, so I began taking lessons. It did take a lot of perseverence, but the Lord enabled me to catch up with the rest of the band and reach a high school level. Through band, I met so many friends and was able to go on trips and compete in festivals with my bandmates. We should play a flute duet sometime!
