Why Smile
Why should you smile? Well, one reason is, because it makes others happy and want to smile too.
Also, Jesus loves you, so isn’t that something to smile about. Even if there was no other reason, that would be a good enough reason. Jesus loves us so much that he sent His only begotten Son to die in our place. So shouldn’t we be thankful and happy, because of what Jesus has done for us, and shouldn’t we show it by our facial expression. Smiling is a way of saying that you’re happy. And you have a wonderful reason for being happy, so I see no reason why you shouldn’t smile.
Smiling also blesses others. Some one may be blessed with just a smile. They may not need you to talk to them, give them a gift, or something else. Maybe they just need a smile from you. Maybe that is the thing that would mean the most to them. You may not know how much one little smile can do, but God knows and He knows that it can do a lot.
Smiling is another way of saying thank you. If someone gives you something or does something for you, you should say “thank you”, but smiling also says a lot and sometimes more. When you smile they can see that you are happy and that you really do appreciate what they did for you.
Here is a poem, about smiling, that I really like.
Try Smiling
When the weather suites you not,
Try smiling;
When your coffee isn’t hot,
Try smiling.
When your neighbors don’t do right,
Or your relatives all fight,
Sure ‘tis hard, but then you might-
Try smiling.
Doesn’t change the things, of course-
Just smiling;
But it cannot make them worse,
Just smiling.
And it seems to help your case,
Brightens up a gloomy place;
Then, it sort o’ rests your face-
Just smiling.

Hey Hannah!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the sweet birthday comment you left at my blog!
In relation to your post - To me it's an obvious that smiles simply make you stand out from the crowd. From what I see a lot, are all these "cool looks" teens seem to give now-a-days. It's kind of like this expressionless stare, like they're trying to intimidate you. It can really turn someone away and can even come across as stuck-up. I know I don't want to come across that way!
So because of the reasons you gave, we should smile. Especially when someone looks our way. Who knows, it may be just the thing that invites someone to ask about our faith? What an opporuntiy to share the Gospel!
Thank you so much for the reminder to smile! I do love to see yours! I love you. Mom
